Discover Our Beachside Family Inn

Our cosy waterside inn is nestled on the edge of the picturesque Portmellon Cove, with striking views and a safe beach for all the family to have fun. A beamed bar area with a snug provides delightful views of the cove through the small sash windows. We have outside seating for warmer days and a cosy wood burner inside for the cold evenings. The Rising Sun Inn is a real pub and freehouse run by the Harvey family. We welcome families with children and are very dog friendly. There is a dog ban on the beach from 1st July until the 30th of September, but we have plenty of room to sit inside or outside the pub with your dog.

Locally Sourced Food, Ales & Refreshments

Our kitchen offers simple, honest, freshly cooked food from light snacks to hearty meals and sources local ingredients whenever available, including fresh seafood from Mevagissey Harbour and Dexter beef from a local farm. We stock Cornish real ales, ciders and guest beers, with a wide range of wines, spirits and popular lagers as well as teas, coffee, soft drinks and real Cornish dairy ice cream.

Many Places to Go & Things to Do

Portmellon Cove, next to the busy fishing port of Mevagissey, is perfectly situated amongst the many attractions that Cornwall has to offer, from quaint fishing villages and fabulous beaches to popular visitor destinations such as the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. There are many activities to enjoy close by including boat trips, sea fishing, kayaking, scuba diving, water sports, cycle trails and hiking - we are right on the South West Coastal Path.

What our Customers are Saying...

Here is a selection of recent comments from our B&B guests and restaurant visitors, posted on facebook, tripadvisor and toprooms.

"Lovely Pub. We visited this pub as we were staying nearby and it had been recommended by the locals to us. The pub is lovely and cosy inside, with a big open fire, It has an olde worlde style feel to it, but that is what makes it so lovely. Who wants a modern feel to a 17th century inn! We ordered food, and it was very good, and also good value too. The bar staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We will defintely be returning!"

"Excellent base for South Cornwall. We had a lovely stay at The Rising Sun Inn earlier this year. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, breakfast was wonderful and kept us going for the whole day!! Our room was rather cramped but adequate as we were only there to sleep. Mevagissey was 10-15 minutes walk away but beware the hill on the way back :)"

"Perfect Location, Friendly staff. A one night stop as part of a trip through the West Country. The Location was fabulous, and food & atmosphere in the bar was excellent. Rooms were clean and smart, and very comfortable."

"Proper pub! ...the staff were friendly, the food good, and the view spectacular. A pub we would like as our local! Our six year old was made to feel welcome which was great, as we have experienced some pubs/restaurants being less than family friendly..."

"...had the best roast dinner ever here today :-)"

"A proper pub! The Rising Sun is a friendly and welcoming old fashioned pub selling proper local beer and simple but tasty food. Not a restaurant, not a wine bar, just a darned good pub!  Its setting in an unspoilt cove is a bonus. We enjoyed visiting several times during our week in a nearby holiday cottage."

"Lovely old pub. I have stayed at the Rising Sun twice now. The rooms that I used were a basic and good size and very clean with a view of the sea, the staff were very friendly and helpful (Even offered to lend me a kayak to go round the bay.) The food on offer was basic but good pub food. I would recommend and will be going back."
