That Was a Big One — Sunday Roast, The Big Portmellon Yard Sale & The Payback
Well, that was a Sunday.
We put three things on the same day — the Sunday Roast relaunch, The Big Portmellon Yard Sale, and live music from The Payback — and honestly, we weren't quite sure what we were letting ourselves in for. Turns out it was one of the best Sundays we've had.
The roast relaunch
We've been building up to bringing the roast back properly, and it showed. We served 90 covers and sent out 115 individual roast dishes across the day — a proper Sunday rush from open to last orders, plates going out in waves rather than one big lunchtime spike. If you were in and had to wait a little longer than usual for your Yorkshire pudding, that's why, and thank you for bearing with us. Comparing it to the same Sunday last year, we were miles ahead — easily our busiest roast day since we relaunched it. A huge thankyou to our team, We are very proud of what they achieved and the experience they gave our customers.
The Big Portmellon Yard Sale
Huge thanks to Tom for pulling the Yard Sale together — it brought a completely different crowd down to the cove than we'd normally see on a Sunday, browsing stalls with a pint in hand, and it turned what could've just been "roast day" into a proper event. Tom was thrilled with how it went, and it's safe to say this won't be the last one.
The Payback
And then there was the music. The Payback played us out into the evening and the dancefloor did not stop — if you were there, you'll know exactly what we mean. Big thank you to the four of them for another brilliant set.
What this tells us
Days like this are exactly why we keep pushing to give people more reasons to come down — good food, something to browse, something to dance to. When we get it right, it really shows. More of this to come.
