Where to Get a Proper Sunday Roast Near Mevagissey
If you're staying near Mevagissey and a Sunday without a roast feels like a Sunday wasted, you've got a few proper options dotted around the cove. Here's our honest top 5 — yes, including us.
What to look for
A good roast comes down to a few basics: proper gravy (not the powdered stuff), a Yorkshire pudding that's actually crisp, and vegetables that haven't been sitting under a heat lamp since midday. Booking ahead is worth doing anywhere in the area come summer or a sunny Sunday — tables go fast.
Our roast, at The Rising Sun
We relaunched our Sunday Roast properly at the end of September, and it's been one of our busiest services since. You're looking at a choice of meats, all the trimmings, and a kitchen that's cooking to order rather than batch-reheating — which does mean the odd wait at peak times, but we think it's worth it. Beachside in Portmellon, with outdoor seating when the weather plays along.
Elsewhere around the cove
Mevagissey itself has a handful of pubs doing their own versions, each with a slightly different style — worth trying a few if you're around for more than one Sunday. If you want something lighter or a different pace, a few of the harbourside cafés do a scaled-back Sunday offering too, though a full roast is really a pub's game.
Our tip
Whichever way you go, book. Sunday lunch is the one meal of the week people plan around down here, and walk-ins are a gamble from spring through to autumn.
If you do pick us, we'd love to see you — just give us a call or drop by to grab a table.
