Bonfire Night in Cornwall 2026: Fireworks Near St Austell and Mevagissey

Bonfire Night in Cornwall falls on Thursday 5 November in 2026, so most of the public fireworks displays are spread across that week, from the last weekend of October to Saturday 7 November. Near St Austell, the closest we could confirm is Illuminate the Night at Par on Saturday 31 October. After that you're looking at Bodmin, Newquay, Looe and Hayle.

We've checked what's listed for 2026 and left out anything we couldn't confirm. Dates change, and weather cancels things, so check with the organiser on the day.

Where can I see fireworks near St Austell in 2026?

  • Par, Saturday 31 October, 4 to 10pm. Illuminate the Night at the Par Events Field, off Par Moor Road near St Austell. Fireworks, laser shows, funfair and street food. It's Halloween night too, so expect costumes.

  • Lappa Valley, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, from 5.30pm. Near St Newlyn East, towards Newquay. A family evening with fireworks.

  • Bodmin, Thursday 5 November, from 5pm. At Priory Park. The only one we found on the night itself.

  • Newquay, Friday 6 November, from 5.30pm. At the NQY Sports Centre.

  • Looe, Saturday 7 November, from 4pm. At Tencreek Holiday Park.

  • Hayle, Saturday 7 November, from 6pm. At Hayle Cricket Club. A long drive west, but a big local display.

Check each organiser's own page for tickets, parking and start times before you set off; the popular ones can sell out.

Are there fireworks in Mevagissey on Bonfire Night?

Not that we could find for 2026. Mevagissey's big fireworks night is the last night of Feast Week at the end of June, according to the parish council. We couldn't find an organised public display in town for November. If that changes we'll update this post.

What's on at The Rising Sun on Bonfire Night?

Bonfire Night is a Thursday, so we're open 12 to 11pm with sharing plates in the kitchen from 5 to 9pm. It's a good stop on the way back from Bodmin, or a quiet evening if fireworks aren't your thing.

The Rising Sun Inn is a 17th-century free house on the beach at Portmellon, a mile from Mevagissey in south Cornwall. The fire's lit in November, the beer is Cornish and chosen by us, and the sea is fifty yards from the bar. Book a table if you're coming as a group; walk-ins are always welcome.

Is Bonfire Night stressful for dogs?

For a lot of dogs, yes. If yours hates bangs, Portmellon is a quieter place to be than a town on the night: no organised display, no crowds. Dogs are welcome in the pub, so you can bring them in rather than leave them home alone. Walk them before dark, keep them on a lead when fireworks are likely, and check the fireworks dates above so you know which nights to expect noise. Our dog-friendly pubs guide covers the rest of the area.

How do I plan a Bonfire Night weekend in Cornwall?

Halloween and Bonfire Night are a week apart, so it's easy to do both in one trip:

  1. Saturday 31 October: fireworks at Par from 4pm, then our Dead Western Halloween party at Portmellon from 6:30pm, with a live band from 8. Free entry. Details in our Halloween events in Cornwall guide.

  2. Sunday 1 November: Sunday roast, 12 to 3pm, and live music most Sunday afternoons.

  3. Tuesday 3 November: Pie & Mash from 5:30pm and the quiz from 7:30pm.

  4. Thursday 5 November: Bonfire Night. Bodmin, or a quiet one with us.

We're open all through the winter. If you want to know what else in the area stays open, read what's open in Mevagissey in winter.
