Meet Our Neighbours: Mevagissey Bay Hotel

Had a really lovely chat with Roy and Sam over at Mevagissey Bay Hotel yesterday, and I wanted to write a bit about it — because in an area like this, the best thing local businesses can do for each other is actually work together, not just exist side by side.

If you don't know them, Mevagissey Bay Hotel sits up on Polkirt Hill, a short stroll from Mevagissey Harbour — a proper family-run, adults-only hotel with ensuite rooms looking out over either the sea or the garden, breakfast cooked fresh every morning with local ingredients, and evening meals five nights a week. It's a genuinely different kind of stay to what we offer here — calmer, adults-only, more of a classic hotel experience — which is exactly why it makes sense for us to point people toward each other rather than see it as competition.

Here's the honest truth: some people want exactly what we do — two rooms, some self-catering flexibility, right on the beach, dogs welcome, the pub downstairs. Other people want what Roy and Sam do — a proper adults-only hotel stay with breakfast included and a bit more space to spread out. Neither is better, they're just different, and when one of us is full, or when a guest asks for something we can't quite offer, we'd both rather send people to a neighbour we trust than have them go searching blind.
