Introducing Selkie Cove @ The Rising Sun

Something new is happening in our kitchen, and I've been bursting to tell you about it.

For a while now, I've wanted the food here to feel as special as the spot we're lucky enough to sit in. Not fancier — just more us. So this year, the team and I sat down and asked a simple question: what would we actually love to cook and eat here, on the beach, with a drink in hand? The answer wasn't a bigger menu or a posher one. It was sharing plates.

So here it is: Selkie Cove @ The Rising Sun — our new small and sharing plates menu, served Wednesday to Sunday.

The idea is simple. You order a few plates between you — three or four between two is about right — and they come out as they're ready. No starters, no mains, no waiting for everyone's food to arrive at once. Just good things landing on the table while the conversation carries on.

And the food itself? It's had us grinning in the kitchen for weeks. Crispy Papas Rellenas — potato croquettes with a spiced beef centre and a zingy salsa (there's a garlic mushroom version too). Hogs Pudding Corn Dogs, our very Cornish take on the fairground classic, with a proper ale gravy for dipping. Yarg Arancini made with our favourite Cornish cheese. Garlic king prawns with puy lentils. Sticky miso caramel chicken wings that nobody has managed to share politely yet. And Yaki Tomorokoshi — charred corn with a sweet soy glaze that tastes like a Japanese summer festival landed in Portmellon.

Whenever our chef finds something good off the Mevagissey day boats, it'll go straight on as a special. That's the joy of being here.

The best part: if the sun's out, take your plates onto the beach. It's ten steps from the front door, and honestly, arancini tastes better with sand between your toes.

Don't worry — Pizza & Quiz Tuesday isn't going anywhere, and Fish Thursdays and our Sunday roasts will be back when the weather turns.

Come and try it. Book a table through the website, or just wander in.
